What today's science mock paper is
Each tier gets a new paper every day, with 8 questions and 25 to 35 marks. The suggested time is about 1.1 minutes a mark, so 30 to 40 minutes. The questions are original, written in the style of the exam boards, not taken from their papers. You answer on screen, with a formula sheet and a calculator in the paper's top bar.
Anyone can sit the paper for free. With a Uni-Sine plan, pressing Finish marks every part straight away against its mark scheme, and you can print the paper with its mark scheme to sit it at a desk.
How it compares with the real Combined Science papers
| Paper | Papers | Time per paper | Marks per paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| AQA Combined Science: Trilogy (8464) | 6, two per science | 1 hour 15 minutes | 70 |
| Edexcel Combined Science (1SC0) | 6, two per science | 1 hour 10 minutes | 60 |
| OCR Gateway Combined Science A (J250) | 6, two per science | 1 hour 10 minutes | 60 |
| OCR Twenty First Century Combined Science B (J260) | 4: one per science, one combined | 1 hour 45 minutes | 95, or 75 for the combined paper |
| Uni-Sine daily paper | 1 a day, all three sciences | 30 to 40 minutes | 25 to 35 |
A daily paper is about half an Edexcel or OCR Gateway paper, at a similar pace: they give 70 minutes for 60 marks, and AQA Trilogy 75 minutes for 70. The difference is the mix. Each real paper sticks to one science, while the daily paper moves between all three. Every board offers Foundation, for grades 1-1 to 5-5, and Higher, for 4-4 to 9-9.
What the science mock covers
Every paper has questions from biology, chemistry and physics. Foundation covers cells, health and disease, atoms and the periodic table, chemical reactions, ecology, energy, electricity, forces and waves. Higher adds bioenergetics, inheritance, quantitative chemistry, rates, organic chemistry, momentum and electromagnetism.
How to sit it as a Trilogy mock paper
- Clear the desk: a pen, a calculator and nothing else. In the real AQA Trilogy exam, the equation sheet comes with the two physics papers in 2027.
- Start the clock and work straight through. It turns red once you pass the suggested time.
- Show your working and give units on every calculation.
- Mark it, then read the mark scheme for every part where you lost marks. Note which science each lost mark came from.
- Fix your weakest science first. Use the Cell Biology, Atomic Structure or Laws of Motion course, or check your working with the Magnification, Molar Mass and Kinetic Energy calculators.
Free GCSE Combined Science past papers
For full-length practice, past papers and mark schemes are free from AQA, Edexcel and OCR. Pearson keeps its newest papers for teachers, so that schools have at least one paper to use as a mock, and releases most papers to students once they are nine months old.
For exam dates, double grades such as 6-5 and grade boundaries, read our GCSE Combined Science guide. For when mocks happen and whether they count, see the GCSE mocks guide. Taking the three sciences separately? Use the biology, chemistry and physics mock papers instead.
