Virtual Microscope

A compound microscope you can use on any screen. Choose a slide, bring it into focus with the coarse and fine knobs, go up through the objectives and measure a cell. The blur, the field of view and the depth of focus all come from real optics.

What you can do

  • Seven slides drawn to real sizes, from onion cells to bacteria and swimming paramecia
  • ×4, ×10, ×40 and ×100 objectives with a ×10 eyepiece
  • Coarse and fine focus, where each focal plane blurs by its own distance from focus
  • A lamp and iris that change brightness, contrast and depth of field
  • A scale bar, an eyepiece graticule and a measuring line that links actual size, image size and magnification
  • Worked total magnification, field of view, graticule units and resolution for the lens in use
