Make Websites with AI: build and ship a site with a coding agent
Make Websites with AI is a step-by-step course that shows you how to build a website with AI using a coding agent, then put it online. In 32 short sections it covers choosing between a chat window and an agent, setting up your computer, writing your first prompt as a spec, giving the agent standing instructions, checking its plans and changes, fixing errors, saving checkpoints with git, running several agents, keeping secrets out of your code and going live.
The skill it teaches is not typing code; it is directing the AI well and checking what it does, which is what decides whether you end up with a site that works.
What the course covers
| Sections | Topic | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 3 | Building by asking, and chat windows vs coding agents | Watch a site build from a prompt, then sort statements into chat or agent |
| 4 to 8 | Editor and terminal agents, what to install, starting a project | Match each tool to its job, then type the setup commands |
| 9 to 13 | Your first prompt as a spec, pointing at files, instruction files | Sort lines of a spec, then sort rules into AGENTS.md or a single prompt |
| 14 to 18 | Reading the plan, reviewing every change, running the site | Spot the plan step that goes too far, then accept or reject diffs |
| 19 to 23 | Wording changes, showing instead of describing, fixing errors | Sharpen a vague request, then decide what a bug report should include |
| 24 to 27 | Commits as checkpoints, and big jobs with many agents | Fill in git commands, then order a multi-agent workflow |
| 28 to 32 | Keeping secrets safe, going live, and what next | Spot a leaked key, then put the steps for going live in order |
Setting up
A chat window, such as the Claude or ChatGPT app, answers in text, and you copy its code into files yourself. A coding agent works in your project: it reads files, writes them and runs commands. The course explains editor agents, such as Cursor or GitHub Copilot in VS Code, and terminal agents, then what to install: a code editor, Node.js, git and an agent.
Directing the agent
The middle of the course is the real skill. A vague prompt gets a generic site, so your first prompt should be a spec: purpose, pages, style and content. An instructions file such as AGENTS.md holds rules the agent reads every session. Before a big change you ask for a plan, and you review every change as a diff, red lines removed and green added, rejecting anything you did not ask for.
Staying safe and shipping
The last part covers what goes wrong: errors (paste the full message and what you did just before), lost work (commit every time the site works), and leaked secrets (keep API keys in a .env file listed in .gitignore). Then you push to GitHub and import the repository into a host such as Vercel or Netlify.
Try a question from the course
Agents sometimes plan more than you asked for. Say you asked for "a contact form on the About page". A plan that adds the form, styles it to match the page and checks it on a phone is fine. A step that also "redesigns the navigation bar" goes beyond the request, so you would ask the agent to drop it before it touches any files.
Now check a plan yourself, then press Mark to check your answer in the course.
Pick the plan step that goes beyond the request.

Who this course is for
- Complete beginners who want their own website and have heard AI can build one.
- Small business owners, creators and students who want a portfolio, shop front or project site without hiring a developer.
- People already "vibe coding" who keep getting stuck, breaking things or losing work, and want a reliable process.
What you need to know first
No coding is required. It helps to know what HTML, CSS and JavaScript files are, so you can follow what the agent writes, and the short HTML, CSS & JavaScript course covers that. You need a computer where you can install software; a tablet will not do for the agent sections.
How long it takes
There are 32 sections and most take a few minutes to read, though actually building alongside takes longer. Learners without a plan can open two sections of a course a day, in order, so the whole course takes 16 days. A plan removes the daily limit and lets you go straight to any section, such as going live.
